The Clever Rooster and the Fox

source :

In a small Khmer village, there lived a clever rooster who loved to crow at dawn from the top of the barn roof. Every morning, his voice echoed across the fields:
“Cock-a-doodle-doo! The sun is up!”

One day, a hungry fox came from the forest and said sweetly,
“Brother Rooster, I bring good news! The King of Animals has declared peace among all creatures. You no longer need to fear me. Come down and let me hug you!”

The rooster tilted his head and replied,
“That’s wonderful news! I will come down… but first, let me call my friends the dogs to celebrate too!”

The fox’s eyes widened.
“Dogs?” he stammered. “I just remembered — I must go tell others the news!”

He ran back into the forest as fast as he could. The rooster laughed and crowed proudly,
“Tricks can fool the greedy, but never the wise!”
